In the “Immigration 101” workshop, service providers to New Americans will learn about immigration and other laws that affect immigrants and refugees in order to increase their understanding of the challenges their clients face. Through participatory exercises and short presentations, the Advocates will provide information on national and local laws, immigration procedures, and enforcement and detention policies. Participants will explore what these laws mean for the people they serve and the potential impact on the local community. Participants will learn where to find accurate information on immigration in general, as well as where to obtain assistance on immigration cases. The interactive workshop will also generate ideas for empowering clients, taking action to defend the rights of immigrants, and advocating for change.
