Helps explain the many ways in which immigration status - whether someone is a green card holder or undocumented - can impact the ability to get a job, go to college, or even remain in the United States.

The Economic Logic of Illegal Immigration (April, 2007). Gordon H. Hanson of the Council of Foreign Relations discusses the economic costs and benefits of illegal immigration.

Unauthorized Aliens in the United States:  Estimates Since 1986 (Updated January, 2007). Ruth Ellen Wasem. Congressional Research Service.  The report highlights push and pull factors contributing to the increase in the undocumented population, border control policies that have impacted the flow of migrant workers, and backlogs in the petition process.

Federalism, Deportation and Crime Victims Afraid to Call the Police (September, 2006). Orde Kittrie. Iowa Law Review. This report discusses the current laws and policies addressing deportation as a barrier to crime reporting by unauthorized aliens, explores the conflicts between separation ordinances and offers a modest proposal for encouraging unauthorized aliens to report crime while reducing the conflicts over immigration law enforcement.

Criminalizing Unlawful Presence (May, 2006). CRS Report for Congress provided by ilw.com and written by Michael John Garcia.  The Report discusses some of the issues raised by criminalizing undocumented presence. 

Immigration Enforcement in the U.S. (April 27, 2006). CRS Presentation for the House Committee on the Judiciary. Slides with a graphs and charts to illustrate who has been removed.

The Immigration Effect (2006). Doug Campbell. The report discusses the economic impact of undocumented immigrants.

The Impact of Illegal Immigration in Minnesota (December 8, 2005). Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty released a report prepared by the Office of Strategic Planning & Results Management which fails to address the benefits of immigration to Minnesota's economy and appears timed to coincide with state and national legislative initiatives. The Office of the State Demographer did not participate in the report and issued a statement directing any questions to the Department of Administration, which oversees the office preparing the report.  Experts estimate that undocumented immigrants contribute $1.56 billion to Minnesota's economy annually.

Estimates of the Unauthorized Immigrant Population Residing in the U.S. (January 2005). Office of Immigration Statistics - Homeland Security.  The report estimates the number of unauthorized immigrants residing in the US in January 2005 by period of entry, country of origin, and state of residence.

Noncitizens and Minnesota Law: A Guide for Legislators (2004).  Research Department Minnesota House of Representatives. A comprehensive guide to data about Minnesota's immigrants.

From Denial to Acceptance:  Effectively Regulating Immigration to the United States (2004). Walter A Ewing.  Immigration Policy Center, American Immigration Law Foundation.  This report examines the rapid growth of the undocumented immigrant population in the US and proposes comprehensive immigration reform as the solution.

Undocumented Immigrants:  Facts and Figures (January, 2004). Jeffrey S. Passel, Randy Capps, and Michael Fix of the Urban Institute Immigration Studies Program.  This brief report includes basic descriptive data on the undocumented population.

Hidden Victims:  Evaluating Protections for Undocumented Victims of Human Trafficking (No Date). Alexandra Webber amd David Shirk of the Immigration Policy Center explain the shift in immigration law providing protections to undocumented victims of trafficking.
