Social Studies: Social Science Processes, Diverse Perspectives History: World History and Cultures English: Academic Writing Mathematics: Chance and Data Analysis Attention Getter - Our Roots in Immigration This simple attention getter will raise awareness of the counties of origin of their own ancestors and those of their classmates.Activity 1.1: Assertions Found in Letters to the Editor Letters to the editor in newspapers nationwide reflect various points of view about immigration. This activity allows students to examine assertions made and should be used in conjunction with Worksheet 1.1 Compiling Assertions about ImmigrationWorksheet 1.1: Compiling Assertions about Immigration A worksheet to record assertions made in Activity 1: Assertions Found in Letters to the Editor.Activity 1.2: Critiquing Assertions Students will discuss assertions made in the Activity 1.1: Assertions Found in Letters to the Editor and read fact sheets in the corresponding categories to determine the accuracy of the assertions.Activity 1.3: Immigration Vocabulary Build a foundation of vocabulary for discussing immigration policy, the process of immigration, and attainment of citizenship through an interactive quiz.Activity 1.4: The Melting Pot Concept Integration or assimilation? Throughout the nation's history the debate has raged.
