2013 Immigration Reform Update: House Judiciary Committee to Introduce Immigration Bills
Monday, June 17, 2013 3:20 PM
On Tuesday, June 18, the House Judiciary Committee will begin to "mark up" several immigration bills as an alternative to comprehensive immigration reform. First up, the Gowdy bill, the so-called "SAFE Act" (H.R. 2278), which is an extreme enforcement-only bill that would dramatically increase detentions, deportations, and racial profiling. A second bill that the committee may "mark up" soon is an Agriculture Guestworker bill (H.R. 1773) that rolls back worker protections for all U.S. and immigrant farmworkers. Click here for bill text, amendments, and analysis of the impact on human rights and the latest as immigration reform moves forward.
