Latest Major Action: April 19, 2012. Bill was passed and proceeded to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

H.F. 358, Immigration law enforcement noncooperation ordinances and policies prohibited, and immigration-related data use provided, was introduced in the House on February 3, 2011. Representatives Bob Barret (R-17B) and Mike Benson (R-30B) co-authored the legislation to prohibit cities and police departments from adopting community policing ordinances and policies designed to build trust with immigrant and refugee crime victims and witnesses.

H.F. 2738 - Constitutional amendment for voter photographic identification (photo ID) requirement

On April 3, 2012, the House voted in favor of the Voter ID bill as agreed upon in the conference committee. The submission to voters that will appear on the November 2012 ballot will be: "Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require all voters to present valid photo identification on election day and that the state provide free identification to eligible voters?"
  • Undermines the right of all persons to participate in the civic life of the community
  • Results in discrimination against racial minorities, the poor, and the elderly
